MAUREEN SPARLING BA Hons

I live and work in a small Cotswold town in Oxfordshire.  After achieving a First Class Honours degree in Graphic Design and Illustration as a mature student in 2001, I ran a successful graphic design business for seven years before a passion for painting botanical watercolours took over.

During the following decade, worldwide travel provided me with a huge variety of inspiration, painting mainly in oils and mixed media using various techniques to describe atmosphere and texture while working towards a looser more expressive approach.

The Pandemic years of ‘stay local’ brought about a connection with the countryside and nature.  After an extended period of inspirational travels to far flung places, I have found that lockdown gave me the opportunity to return to watercolours in a new and exciting way using subject matter from my local surroundings.

I have exhibited at the Annual Oxfordshire Artweeks Festival over the past fifteen years, as well as other local galleries and exhibitions.  I have also sold my work in London at The Mall Galleries and Westminster Hall, as well as  worldwide.
